Sick Leave Pool Program

On July 28th, Commissioners Court approved the Sick Leave Pool Program to assist eligible Harris County employees who are experiencing a hardship due to their own catastrophic injury or illness and have exhausted all accrued paid leave.


Employees that meet the eligibility requirements below and need to request hours from the Pool can complete and email the attached Withdrawal Form and a completed FMLA Form 456A to


Withdrawal Eligibility Requirements

1.    Employee has a Catastrophic Injury or Illness as described in the attached Sick Leave Pool Policy.

2.    Employee has been absent for at least 10 continuous work days.

3.    Employee has exhausted all available accrued paid leave and compensatory time.

4.    Employee is in a Regular Position and has been continuously employed by Harris County for at least 12 months.


Coming Soon:  Eligible employees will soon be able to donate leave to the Sick Leave Pool through Employee Self-Service (ESS). Employees that are retiring or separating from Harris County, whether voluntarily or involuntarily, and would like to donate to the Pool, may contact our office at to request a Donation Form. Employees who are retiring or separating may donate up to ten days (80 hours) of their combined Sick and Vacation leave hours before the effective date of separation.


Please be advised that time donated to the pool is irrevocable and cannot be designated to any particular employee.
