Claims KeyboardThe Claims Section of Human Resources & Risk Management consists of licensed claims adjusters and support personnel that process and adjust tort (liability) claims on behalf of Harris County.

​Harris County and the Harris County Flood Control District are self-insured for tort claims in accordance with the Texas Tort Claims Act.

​Harris County and the Harris County Flood Control District are also self-insured for workers' compensation exposure. A contract is in effect with a third party administrator for servicing workers' compensation claims. The Claims Section oversees the claims handling function of the third party administrator.

​Other functions of the Claims Section include the follow-up of claims investigations in conjunction with the County Attorney's Office when lawsuits are filed, the filing of claims for insured losses, and the gathering of information to facilitate studies in the areas of exposure and adequacies of coverage.
