HARRIS COUNTY CONSTABLE PRECINCT 1

Accepting applications for DEPUTY CONSTABLE

DEPUTY APPLICANTS MUST:

  • Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age on their date of employment. There are NO maximum age limits.
  • Be a citizen of the United States of America and be able to demonstrate proof of U.S. citizenship by showing a birth certificate (for U.S. citizens) or a birth certificate and Naturalized citizen papers.
  • Provide copies of college transcripts showing at least 30 semester hours of college. In lieu of college semester hours an Honorable Discharge from the United States Armed Forces, and/or at least five (5) years of law enforcement experience will be accepted.
  • All Applicants with military experience must have an Honorable Discharge.
  • Be eligible for licensing by the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education. (T.C.L.E.O.S.E.)
  • Be examined by a licensed physician and by a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist and be declared, in writing, to be physically sound and capable of performing the essential functions of the job and be in satisfactory psychological and emotional health to be licensed as a Peace Officer.
  • Provide a credit report (at the applicant’s expense) for evaluating personal integrity and financial responsibility.
  • Have a valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Provide employment history, including the number of jobs and reason for leaving, will be considered. Unfavorable employment records or references may be grounds for rejection.
  • Be willing to accept any assignment and shift within the Harris County Constable’s Office Precinct One, including weekends and holidays.

RESERVE APPLICANTS ONLY:

  • Reserve Applicants are required to have a High School Diploma or GED. Requirements for college, military service, or prior law enforcement service will be waived.

HARRIS COUNTY CONSTABLE PRECINCT ONE EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION PROCESS

  • Applicants must successfully complete all phases of the application process.
  • The Constable’s Office (Pct. 1) Background Division will conduct interviews for all qualified applicants.
  • A thorough background investigation is conducted on all applicants, and evidence of good moral character and reputation is mandatory. Disclosure of any one of the following may constitute grounds for disqualification:
    • Admission of conviction of any felony offense;
    • Disqualification for misdemeanor offenses, which are disclosed through admissions or convictions, is based upon the type, frequency and/or recentness of the offense(s);
    • An applicant will not be under Indictment, Awaiting Trial, or on Probation for a criminal offense at the time of the application;
    • The driving record of an applicant will be reviewed. Excessive traffic violations and/or accidents may result in disqualification for deputy applicants and civilian positions that require driving.
    • A history of bad credit or failure to meet financial obligations may result in disqualification for deputy applicants;
    • Applicants who received a less than an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Military Service will be permanently disqualified;
    • Any deception, false statement(s) or evidence of fraud in your application may result in a permanent
    • disqualification;
  • All Applicants are subject to a polygraph examination upon request from the Background investigators

Location – Houston, Texas 77002

Job Type – Full/Part Time

Job Description

  • Responsible for providing security scanning and screening services in all district court locations of the Harris County Courthouse.
  • Operate electronic walk-through metal detectors and hand-held screening devices to determine if persons entering public buildings are carrying or wearing weapons and other prohibited items.
  • Operate x-ray machine to screen handbags, briefcases and other parcels to determine if weapons, bombs or other prohibited items are contained therein.
  • Perform hand searches of bags, briefcases and other carry-in items to identify illegal items and; refuse entry to persons with prohibited items into buildings, if necessary.
  • Use human relations skills where possible, and directive behavior when called for, to ensure the clear communication and implementation of security screening procedures and the involvement of other security staff where appropriate.
  • Call for assistance from security staff and/or local police for intervention when needed.

Job Requirements

  • Must be eighteen years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must be able to able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, push or pull for virtually the entire shift.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours including overtime, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to effectively work in a team environment.
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Must be able to pass all pre-employment screens (including drug, background and criminal checks).

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Communications Dispatcher position consists of specially trained personnel that provide first line communication for 911 emergency calls and non-emergency requests for police assistance from citizens in Northern Harris County. Due to many different types of calls, the dispatcher must be able to remain calm and determine the nature/urgency of calls, initiate a police response and/or other emergency services while maintaining close contact with field units. Situations where a caller is emotional, disturbed and sometimes abusive, the Communications Dispatcher must have the initiative and independent judgment to operate within procedural boundaries in these situations. The Communications Dispatcher position requires rotating shift assignments and overtime in accordance with maintaining a fully operational 24-hour facility.

Patrol Deputy

Patrol Deputies comprise the largest, most visible part of the Constable’s Department. The duties of the Patrol Division include high visibility marked patrol, emergency and non-emergency response to calls for service, on scene and follow-up investigations, crime prevention and traffic enforcement. Patrol deputies are responsible for law enforcement on the public roadways, in the County Parks, the Toll Road system and the many subdivisions that participate in the Contract Deputy Program. Patrol Deputies report to the Command Station or one of our substations that are located throughout the precinct.

Starting Salary:

$44,866.00 annually entry level, plus education and certificate incentives and uniform allowance.

Employment Requirements:

  • Licensed by TCOLE
  • Pass comprehensive background investigation
  • Pass medical, drug, psychological and language skills test
